Ricinus

The Castor Oil plant is very adaptable to medium and high fertility soils from the sea level to 2500 MASL.  Between 45% to 55% of the total seed weight is extracted as oil.

The maximum percentage of oil extraction is dependent of the seed variety and the soil quality, the climate and the rain precipitation level.

One of the main characteristics of the Castor Oil plant is its tolerance to the drought periods.  This condition  enables  its farming in an economically viable scenario in semi-arid environments where agricultural alternatives are reduced.
